Extending Secure Data Connectivity across existing Industrial Control Systems into the Cloud

Industrie 4.0 and Industrial IoT depend on data connectivity across existing Industrial Control Systems (ICS). But many I4.0/IIoT projects fail to go in to large-scale production, because the boundaries between new IIoT applications and existing ICS systems is not sufficiently addressed. This whitepaper describes latest digital technology from Azure, including IoT Hub, Device Provisioning Service, IoT Edge, Nested Edge and Offline Operation, as well as how industrial cybersecurity standards like IEC-62443 can be used to securely introduce data connectivity across existing ICS systems and industrial networks that follow the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture (PERA) via the concept of security zones and conduits.
